“There is a space that exists between reality and denial, what the body remembers, and the mind will believe.”

I am amazed by the human spirit and its capacity to bleed and break, then rise and push past the unspeakable to reach for hope and healing.

Unbreakable was created to be a visual voice for the internal story of pain and suffering that often results from an experience that was imposed, not invited. Such encounters leave the innocent to pick up the fragmented pieces of their lives as they carry the burden of someone else’s demons.

Trauma takes the individual to emotional places others may never experience and often don’t fully understand. It can be difficult, and in some situations unsafe, for survivors to speak and share their stories. Art can communicate where words fail us and be a voice for the voiceless.

Drawing from personal experience, I used my camera to explore the complexity and fragility of such trauma, capturing the tension between dark and light, hidden and revealed, distortion and clarity. I wanted to expose the many layers of our human experiences that are often not spoken but lay buried alive within the deep recesses of our beings. It was important to convey the struggle between what is seen and unseen revealing both our vulnerability and our strength.

It is my prayer that this work will give voice and validation to those beautiful souls who have been impacted by trauma and provide awareness and understanding to people who walk with them. My hope is that you hear a thousand unspoken words in these images and your story is honoured by this visual experience.
